Welcome to HiveZen Marriage and Family Therapy, where our approach is grounded in the transformative principles of systems theory, epigenetics, and trauma-informed care. We're passionate about recognizing the intricate web of connections within families and relationships and understanding how systemic dynamics and generational influences shape mental health.
Embracing systems theory, we view families and couples as dynamic entities where every member holds a vital role. Our journey involves unraveling the complexities within these systems, addressing issues collaboratively, and fostering resilience for positive change. By closely collaborating with families, we explore their unique values, traditions, and communication styles to enhance understanding and strengthen connections.
Taking inspiration from epigenetics, we delve into the interplay of nature and nurture in shaping individual experiences. Exploring intergenerational patterns and inherited traits, we guide clients to understand profound influences on their lives and relationships, empowering them to break free from negative cycles and embrace positive transformation.
The impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) casts a daunting shadow, extending far beyond childhood into adulthood. Grief, within the context of ACEs, weaves a complex tapestry of loss, shattered innocence, and unhealed wounds. We recognize the mourning not just for a lost childhood but also for the stifled potential overshadowed by adversity. The journey through grieving ACEs involves navigating broken trust, fractured relationships, and the lingering echoes of traumatic experiences, becoming a silent companion to those carrying the weight of their past.
At the core of our philosophy is a trauma-informed lens, acknowledging the pervasive impact of trauma on individuals and families. We provide a safe and supportive space, prioritizing sensitivity to the unique needs of trauma survivors. Our approach involves understanding the effects of trauma on interpersonal relationships and employing trauma-sensitive strategies to promote healing and resilience.
Our therapeutic process is characterized by a nonjudgmental and holistic approach, considering the physical, emotional, and relational aspects of well-being. Collaborating closely with clients, we co-create meaningful and sustainable solutions. By seamlessly integrating systems theory, epigenetics, and trauma-informed practices, we guide individuals and families through challenges, fostering resilience and building stronger connections.
At HiveZen Marriage and Family Therapy, our unwavering commitment is to provide a compassionate and informed environment where clients can explore, heal, and grow. We believe that by understanding the interconnected nature of relationships, the impact of generational influences, and the nuances of trauma, individuals, and families can embark on a seamless journey toward profound healing and enriched well-being.

Dr. Putnam simply goes by Chris. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Ottawa University, a Master of Business Administration specializing in Healthcare Administration from Ottawa University, and a Ph.D. in Business Administration specializing in Organizational Leadership from Northcentral University. Chris is also a graduate of Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service.
Chris served twenty-eight years in the funeral industry and spent twenty-two years in the Texas Highland Lakes. He began studying systems theory to complement his Ph.D. for consulting with small business owners to reduce voluntary employee turnover, increase organizational service levels, and enhance the employee experience. Dr. Putnam actively consults small business owners, nonprofit leaders, and churches on topics ranging from human resources to crisis control. More information regarding HiveZen Consulting can be found at www.HiveZenConsulting.com.
Chris plans to practice as a master’s level trauma-informed psychotherapist in the Fall of 2024. He earned a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy with a specialization in Child and Adolescence Family Therapy from National University. He interned at Capital Area Counseling in Austin, Texas, before preparing to open his private practice, serving all of Texas virtually. Clients remain on their turf for sessions, and as a true postmodern therapist, Chris believes clients are the experts of their lives. Each session is co-explored to discover new meanings for presenting issues and alleviating symptoms that brought the client to therapy.
Retired from the funeral industry and unaffiliated with a funeral home, Chris remains an active deathcare professional. His role involves offering coaching to individuals confronting terminal illnesses, guiding families through the process of preparing for death, and providing grief counseling after a loss. Notably, Chris holds the prestigious certification of Thanatology Fellow from the Association for Death Education and Counseling.
Chris continues to call the Texas Highland Lakes home. His wife Jessamyn is a Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates (COPAA) trained Special Education Advocate empowering children and their families seeking services and supports through the public education school system. More information about Jessamyn can be found at www.childrenneedheroes.com. Chris and Jessamyn have three sons, Liam, Connor, and Anson.
